Yesterday, we excitedly welcomed Hugh Van Cuylenburg to HWPS. He is the founder of the Resilience Project.
Hugh shared his adventures throughout India and how much of an impact the people made on his life. He also shared his personal story of his sister who had a mental illness.
We were interested to hear the statistic that 1 in 7 primary aged students have a mental illness and that 65% of secondary school students with a mental illness do not seek professional help. So, what are the 3 key points Hugh and his team wanted us to know?
- Gratitude – Being grateful for what we have and openly expressing that
- Mindfulness – Being in the moment and appreciating what you have
- Empathy – Being able to understand and share the feelings of others
We were asked to write 3 things we were grateful for each day. Perhaps you could share the ideas around the dinner table each night. At school – we have a Dis! #Gratitude board or jar to add our thanks into.
Beginning next Tuesday, students are invited into Brianna’s classroom before school to practice mindfulness.
